Interview: Amanda talks Superman, Sucker Punch, and Big Love

Amanda Seyfried is young and beautiful, with deep, soulful eyes that are as round as saucers.

Petite, and wearing a gorgeous black and white Missoni dress, the actress looks like she could melt a thousand hearts with the bat of an eyelid. But Seyfried is the first to admit that she’s just as lucky, and unlucky, in love as the rest of us.

The 25-year-old was in a relationship with her Mamma Mia co-star Dominic Cooper for two years and, after meeting at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party last October, she’s been spotted in the company of actor Ryan Phillippe (she’ll only say that she’s been “seen” with him).

You’d be forgiven for thinking that her life is a modern-day fairytale just like Red Riding Hood, her latest movie.

But the softly spoken Pennsylvanian blonde reveals that she’s still finding her feet when it comes to dating.

“Relationships are hard,” she says decisively. “It’s hard to find a good partner and, the older I get, the more I realise how hard it is to find the right person.”

She pauses for a moment to reflect before adding: “Also, my brain is developing. I’m still figuring out what I need and what I want from a relationship, particularly because I have such a busy lifestyle.”

Of course, having shot to fame in Mamma Mia, she’s now under scrutiny everywhere she goes, which means that she’s become accustomed to people talking about her.

“Any actor, no matter how young or old, if you’re in the public eye, people will judge you and your relationships,” she sighs.

“They are going to judge who you are with, and why, and how long. People will have opinions about it so that’s hard, especially if it’s someone you care about.”

Here are a few quotes from the interview as well – sounds like a good one!

On her outspoken personality: “I talk like I know what I’m saying, but I don’t.”

On being honest with herself: “I like the freedom of being exactly who I am. And that’s gotten me into trouble.”

On being told she needed to get botox: “I was like, Damn you! But we’re in Hollywood. I’m on a huge screen. With these new digital cameras, you can see the peach fuzz on my face.”

On being fired from her first-ever acting gig: “I was bad, I was really bad.”

On her love of the romantic comedies: “I don’t think I’m being very ‘artistic’ when I do them, but I’m not doing it for that reason. Romantic comedies make me happy. I watch Love Actually every Christmas.”

On her best on-screen kisses: “I can’t lie. It didn’t suck making out with Channing [Tatum] and Justin [Timberlake]. “

On who she would like to be paired up with next:< “I’d really love to make out with Michael Fassbender. Put me in a movie with that guy. I’m serious. Wow.”

Seyfried thrown to the wolf in ‘Red Riding Hood’

In her new movie, Amanda Seyfried is a girl in the hood. “It’s all about blood, guts, love and sacrifice,” says the doe-eyed star who is talking about a new twist on “Red Riding Hood,” opening Friday.

“Basically, it’s a sexy, modern-day take on ‘Little Red Riding Hood,’ which is such an interesting new way to approach a story that’s such a classic tale. The story is also 700 years in the making, so it’s cool to interpret it again. There was so much more of a story to tell.”

At age 25, the actress best known for her turn in “Mamma Mia!” is ready to take some chances on the big screen.

“I don’t like to play characters that are too perfect,” Seyfried says. “Perfect is boring. People are made up of flaws.”

“I do want to play strong women and show that you can still be strong when you’re trying to figure out who you are and what you want in life,” she says. “I also don’t want to play someone who is me. Where is the challenge in that?”

Amanda Seyfried Promises ‘Big Love’ Finale ‘Is Crazy’

If the video doesn’t embed you can view it here.

With the fifth and final season of “Big Love” coming to a close (there are only three episodes left, to be exact), fans of HBO’s off-kilter — and ground-breaking — polygamy drama are gearing up to say goodbye to Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) and his entire brood. And while viewers must part ways with the extended Henrickson clan, it seems some of the cast plans to stay something of a family, even after the show has gone off the air.

When MTV News caught up with Amanda Seyfried, who played defiant daughter Sarah Henrickson on the Emmy-nominated series for four seasons, she told us letting go of the show wasn’t too tough for her.

“I already dealt with the goodbyes. I’m cool,” said Seyfried, who is promoting her latest film, the fairy-tale adaptation “Red Riding Hood.” Turns out, the 25-year-old star was already close, in proximity or otherwise, with some of the show’s cast and crew.

“I live right next door to Jeanne Tripplehorn and very close to Ginny [Ginnifer] Goodwin. My best friend, who’s the producer of the show, lives down the street,” Seyfried said, adding, “My brother on the show [Douglas Smith] is like my brother in real life. [They] are already incorporated into my life, so I’m not that sad.”

Still, Seyfried — who noted, “It’s gonna suck because we’re not going to be on that set that we’ve been on for seven years playing a family” — acknowledged the rest of the cast (which includes Golden Globe-winner Chloé Sevigny) had a tougher time letting go.

“They were more sad because they also did the last season, whereas I only did one scene,” said Seyfried, who returned to the “Big Love” set while filming “Red Riding Hood.”

While bidding adieu to the series will be a blow to its loyal viewers, Seyfried promises that at least there’s a satisfying ending in store. She emphasized that the series finale, set to air March 20, “is crazy.” When we asked if fans will be pleased with the way everything wraps up, she put it succinctly with a smile, “Yes! I mean, if they’re not, then … tough!”

Interview: ‘I Try To Be A Mystery’

Like every child, Amanda Seyfried grew up hearing the story of Little Red Riding Hood. But the heroine she imagined was way different from the role she took on in Catherine Hardwicke’s re-imagining. “The story I was told was very basic and this movie is quite the opposite,” says Seyfried. “She’s older in this version and has much more at stake.”

Compared to the wan princesses mooning over their Prince Charmings, Little Red has always had spunk. Here it’s doubled, as the blonde in the scarlet coat finds herself torn between two suitors, the poor and sexy Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) and the rich and doting Henry (Max Irons). “She’s young, curious, and assertive,” says Seyfried. “It’s a beautiful mix—you know from the beginning she’ll get what she wants.”

Little Red is also Seyfried’s chance to star in a hot-blooded fairy tale by Catherine Hardwicke, the director who turned Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson into household names and tabloid stars. “Catherine sold the whole idea over lunch,” says Seyfried. “More than most directors, she’s interested in the real passions of a young woman—her leading ladies aren’t just ‘the girl.’ Her heroines are fearless and smart, to say the least.”
